Spela Sterle Dance will perform Compound, a new collaboration towards a full-length project that fuses dance, words, and music to depict the struggle with society's opposing expectations of women: everything is expected yet no one thing must define her. In Compound Ms. Sterle explores movement as being pure yet inspired by gestures of everyday life; bringing a sense of visceral emotion and theater to the piece. The dance is juxtaposed against text by Michael Eldridge and music composition by Andy Parsons.

Verve Dances - Premiere performance - October 10 - 12, 2003

Špela Sterle Dance presents Verve Dances, an evening of contemporary dance works that fuse movement with an eclectic blend of art media. In Verve Dances, Slovenian choreographer and dancer Špela Sterle continues her quest to meld the cultures of two disparate lands -- the natural beauty of her native Slovenia, and the urban allure of her chosen home, New York City.
Verve Dances is filled with both abstract beauty and pure, visceral emotion -- a unique theatrical experience. Original music by "Acquaman" and jazz saxophonist and composer Andy Parsons, who will perform live; video projection by Slovenia-based visual media artist Matej Kosir, textual elements by Michael Eldridge with accompanying vide by Adam Etline, costumes by Patti Gilstrap, set by Paula Digioia, and performed by Natalie Agee, Laura Caldow, Paulina Danilczyk, Stephanie Lazzara, Eden Mazer, Cara Regan, Stacy Sumpman and Špela Sterle.

Join us for the premiere of Verve Dances!
